Behavioural symptoms

Those with purging disorder are susceptible to suffering from a mood disorder such as depression, bi-polar disorder or anxiety disorder in addition to the eating disturbances.

The hallmark behaviour symptom of purging disorder is some form of purging of calorie intake. The most common methods of purging occur by vomiting others are use laxatives, diuretics, or excessive exercise.

Also, those with purging disorder may be more likely than others to behave impulsively. Behaviours associated with multi impulsive bulimia that might be present in those with purging disorder include sexual promiscuity, cutting (or other self-harm), and shoplifting. Some other symptoms can be seen;

•Compulsive about exercise

•A concern with weight and general obsession with appearance

•Taking a long time to get dressed and changing several times

•Depression

•Anxiety, mood swings and irritability

•Low self esteem

•Leaving the table straight away after a meal to vomit

•Running water in the bathroom to disguise the sound of vomiting

•Spending time alone and general withdrawal from social events and occasions.
