Diagnosis of compulsive overeating

Unlike anorexia and bulimia nervosa, diagnostic criteria for this eating disorder have not been fully agreed. However mot professionals will ask the follwoing questions, answering yes to all would indicate that the individual suffering from compulsive over eating. These criteria are also very similar to bing eating disorder, criteria for the two simelar disorders do overlap.

1. Do you eat large amounts of food in a short period of time?

2.Do you have trouble stopping at one bite?

3.Does this happen twice or more per week?

Often the following two questions are added as a lot of people without an eating disorder could answer yes to the above.

1. Do you crave processed carbs? this is imperative to accurately pinpoint those who may have a Serotonin deficiency (Serotonin is a chemical in the body that effects mood and is enhanced by carbohdrates).

2.Is overeating causing you some sort of physical, emotional, or social harm?
