Symptoms of binge eating disorder

Psychological/behavioural symptoms;

 

Uncontrolled eating Eating large amounts of food in a short time period Rapid or frenzied eating Secretive eating Missing work, school, or social events Mood swings and depression Promiscuous sexual relations or impulsive behaviour Describing food as a "friend" Feeling unable to control how much they eat once they start.  Experimenting with different diets and often struggling with them. Panic attacks, despair, and loss of concentration and feelings of apprehension. Holding the belief that life will be better if they could lose weight. Hiding and storing food in strange places to eat alone (closets, cabinets, draws, suitcases, under the bed). Eating and Strange times, sometimes in the middle of the night. Self-diminishing remarks. Any failure in social/professional community is attributed to their weight.

Physiological/ health risks;


Excessive sweating or shortness of breath Weight gain Decreased mobility caused by joint pain (for those overweight) Insomnia, irregular sleep patterns. Risk of heart attack (usually from being overweight) High blood pressure High cholesterol Kidney disease/failure Arthritis and bone deterioration Risk of stroke Diabetes Many types of cancer Gall bladder disease Joint and back pain Insomnia and irregular sleeping patterns Blood sugar fluctuations cause cravings, headaches, stomach aches and the inability to cope with hot and cold temperatures. Fatigued after relatively light activities.
