Who can suffer from comulsive over eating disorder?
Binge eating disorder can occur in individuals of any race, age or socio-economic status, and unlike other eating disorders (such as anorexia and bulimia) in which females are many times more likely to be diagnosed than males, binge eating disorder is diagnosed only slightly more often in females than males.
The illness is associated with the health risks of the obese population. The problem has risen dramatically in the past few decades, and the prevalence of obesity has risen from 13% in 1980 to 32% percent in 2004 (This according to the National Center for Health Statistics).
Overeating and drug abuse!
The loss of weight is either only regained and more once the drug use is discontinued, or a substance abuse problem can develop which makes an already challenging eating disorder more complex to treat.
Unlike anorexics compulsive eaters accept that they have a problem with food and weight. However sometimes rather than look for treatment for their eating disorder, it is not uncommon for them to turn to drugs for a “quick fix”. The drugs of choice for the compulsive eater tends to be diet pills, Dexedrine, amphetamines, cocaine and some even turn to crystal methamphetamine, all in order to lose weight. This show’s that many feel it is the weight that is the problem rather than their attitude towards food.
